What is a Retina Specialist?
Retinal specialists are sub-specialists within the field of ophthalmology (medical and surgical eye diseases). Following medical school, our training begins in general ophthalmology which provides overall knowledge of eye diseases and surgery. All of us have undergone further in-depth training in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous by completing, in addition, a 1-2 year retinal fellowship. Ten years of medical training is required to become a retinal specialist.
